The Grand Rapids Symphony presents The Music of The Eagles

Of all the bands that have changed the way we listen to music, none were as influential as The Eagles.  Formed in the early 1970s in Los Angeles, they started making music quickly and climbed the music charts ever since.  With such hits as “Hotel California” and “Desperado”, they introduced a whole new twist to their genres.  They played everything from Rock and Jazz to Country.  With music that encompasses multiple genres, it was almost impossible to hear something you didn’t like.  It’s no wonder why the Grand Rapids Symphony wanted to put on a show.

Of course, The Eagles couldn’t actually come to the concert, they are busy people.  However, there was a five member tribute band that played alongside the Symphony, with guest conductor Brent Havens, who also arranged the songs for the orchestra.  The lead singer of the tribute band, Terry Brock, definitely knew what he was doing.   After all, he did play with Kansas, Molly Hatchet, and Lynyrd Skynyrd.  The band played the Eagles hits as closely as possible while having the orchestra play with them, bringing a whole new flavor to the already well known songs.

The tunes had the magic that the original songs brought to the industry along with the unique sound of a full orchestra.  As expected from a symphony, most (if not all) the notes were there and in tune.  No section had a “boring” part; each one contributed very well to the overall effect that that concert gave off.

This was the second concert of the Symphony’s “Symphonic Boom” series, and there will be many more memorable performances to come.  One of which is on April 14, 2009, when the Grand Rapids Symphony will be playing a show called “Distant Worlds: Music from Final Fantasy”.  Make sure to get your tickets in advance!  It will be another show to remember.
